Executive Director - Shelly Kemp

Shelly joined the Chamber in May 2003 (one week before a major event!) Before being the first official Director of Events at the RO Chamber, Shelly held several event marketing positions, working for such notable companies as PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Baan Automotive and the Michigan Association of CPA’s. She also worked for a medical communications company as their Conference Manager, organizing HIV/Aids workshops all over the world. She received her bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University in Design and Merchandising, with an Art History minor. Shelly lives in Royal Oak with her husband, Scott  and her son, Charlie.

Director of Development - Andrea Cowan

After spending 18 years at home raising her family, Andrea rejoined the workforce in 1999 taking a job in inside sales for Monroe Engineering. In 2003, she accepted the position of Director of Membership with the Royal Oak Chamber and over the course of 3 ½ years, Andrea was successful in increasing membership by 454 new members and organizing the Chamber’s first Ambassador Committee. Married to former Mayor, Dennis Cowan, Andrea’s dedication and commitment to Royal Oak is apparent every day and since returning in March, 2007 as the Director of Development, is excited to be once again part of the Chamber. Andrea lives in Royal Oak with her husband Dennis and son, Danny.

Director of Events - Jennifer Clark

Jennifer joined the Chamber in October 2010 as Events Coordinator. A 22-year resident of Royal Oak, Jennifer has worked in Events, Marketing and Communications her entire career. Former employers include Magic Line, Inc., where she worked as Event & Marketing Coordinator prior to leaving the workforce to become a “domestic engineer.” A familiar face performing on Stagecrafters and other local area community theatre stages, she began coordinating events and community marketing for Chamber Member Water Works Theatre Company during her time as a stay at home mom – a role she still plays today amidst the many Chamber events. Jennifer met her husband Doug while performing at Stagecrafters and her children Jarod and Paige both attend Royal Oak schools.

Bookkeeper/Finance - Mandy Johnson

Mandy joined the Chamber as its bookkeeper in 2004. She has a bachelors degree from Michigan State University and has worked in a financial capacity in real estate development and for numerous manufacturing representatives. Married for more than 25 years she lives with her husband Rick Johnson (Billings Lawn Equipment) and their dog Dakota in Bloomfield Hills. They also have three grown children – Stephani, Scott and Julie.

Membership Assistant - Mike Gairaud

Mike Gairaud , joined the Chamber in April 2010. He will be graduating in 2012 from Wayne State University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Advertising/Marketing. He lives in Ferndale and enjoys being an active member of the community. Mike is a member of the Wayne State Chapter of the American Advertising Federation and American Marketing Association. His interests are urban planning issues involving the improvement of regional mass transit in southeast Michigan. He’s also very interested in increasing the awareness of the local business community through advertising and marketing avenues. Working at the Royal Oak Chamber was an obvious choice for him as he pursues his career objectives.
