
Students in Royal Oak Neighborhood Schools consistently score well in the MEAP, and the high school students’ ACT score composites are higher than both the state and national averages. The district has one high school, two middle schools, eight elementary schools, an early childhood center with a fully certified staff, preschool for 3-year-olds, childcare for infants to 5-vear-olds, and complete special education services.
Royal Oak Neighborhood Schools is a designated Schools-of-Choice district, and students from Royal Oak and surrounding school systems can attend the Oakland Technical Center in Royal Oak for advanced technical training and career exploration.
In addition Royal Oak was recognized in 2009 by Business Week as one of the top three cities in Michigan in their Best Places to Raise Your Kids coverage.

Approximately 6,000 students attend the Royal Oak campus of Oakland Community College daily. Along with traditional undergraduate courses, the campus offers outstanding programs in computer information systems, ceramics, photography, and English as a second language. The city’s cultural life is enhanced by the campus’ 400 seat theater that holds musical performances and free lectures by renowned photographers and authors
