Volunteering @ Lighthouse
Chamber volunteers will help process donations (e.g., sort, organize, check quality/expiration dates, etc.), prepare food boxes, and bring them to clients at Lighthouse HQ. There are a variety of stations. Depending on what volunteers are comfortable with, you will be placed accordingly. With the rising cost of food/living, our pantries have experienced an uptick in demand. On average, we serve 90-120 people per day at our Pontiac Pantry. Across all 3 of our sites (Pontiac, Southfield, and Clarkston), we distributed over 110,000 food boxes last year.
Lighthouse’s mission is to build equitable communities that alleviate poverty in partnership with and in service to individuals, families, and organizations. Our primary purpose is to meet the basic needs of community members living in poverty and to support and empower them in their journey toward long-term stability. To fulfill this mission, Lighthouse offers a broad range of housing, food assistance, stabilization and support programs that address emergency needs while also tackling individual and systemic barriers to self-sufficiency. Through a holistic, client-centered approach, we move individuals and families from homelessness to housing and from crisis to stability.Images
