Owosso, MI – Baker College is making a bold move to break down financial barriers and bring former students back to the classroom with the launch of Return to the Hive, an institutional debt forgiveness program designed to welcome back former students who left before completing their educational goal. The program offers up to 100% forgiveness of institutional debt, along with personalized academic and financial guidance.
"The 'Return to the Hive' program is more than just debt forgiveness; it's an invitation back to a supportive community that champions the aspirations of our students," said Dr. Jacqui Spicer, Baker College President and CEO. "We know that life can throw unexpected curveballs, and for many, that meant putting their education on hold. This program is our commitment to helping them finish what they started, providing the resources and encouragement they need to succeed."
Eligible students must have last attended Baker College two or more years ago (excluding students from St. Francis Law), return to pursue a degree or certificate, and meet academic requirements. Students must return to pursue a certificate or degree, attend at least half-time, and meet the financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements or have an approved appeal.
It’s a clear pathway for students to return, re-engage, and complete their degrees without being weighed down by past-due balances. Forgiveness is applied in two phases: 50% debt forgiveness after successful completion of the first semester, and the remaining 50% after successful completion of the second semester. Students who complete their degree in one semester are eligible for 100% debt forgiveness upon graduation.
Participants will work directly with academic and financial aid advisors to build a customized Return to the Hive Student Success Plan and receive ongoing support to ensure students have a solid plan for success that will guide them to graduation.
Baker is also waiving the application fee to make the process even more accessible for returning students. For more information about the Return to the Hive Debt Forgiveness Program visit baker.edu/return, or to speak with an advisor, contact the Office of Admissions at (855) 487-7888.
